POTA Club Event
#1
Would like to invite anyone who would like to do a POTA Club activation in Grey county.
The place is Kinghurst Conservation Area  CA-6367 GPS 44.3091, -80.93.54. It has been activated by several POTA activators already.
I would prefer to do it during the week between 5 and 8 pm. The reason for is that on
- on weekends contests are usually going on the bands but the WARC bands are available.
- better band conditions in late afternoon and evening hours.
I am looking at July 20 - 25th for potential activation if you are interested.

Looks like we have 4 members willing to take part in the GBARC POTA club event. The date chosen is July 23 or 24 pending wx between 5 and 8pm.
Let me know if you will have a complete station station to setup. Each station should have logging capabilities, preferably electronic media or just paper and pen.
  • [b]Required Fields:[/b]
    • Code:
      <STATION_CALLSIGN>
       or

      Code:
      <OPERATOR>
      • Club/group logs must include both

        Code:
        <STATION_CALLSIGN>
         AND

        Code:
        <OPERATOR>
         fields for each QSO, with the

        Code:
        <STATION_CALLSIGN>
         field containing the club or group’s callsign
      • Individual logs should contain the same call in both fields or include only one of the fields
    • Code:
      <CALL>
    • Code:
      <QSO_DATE>
      • The date of the QSO in UTC.
    • Code:
      <TIME_ON>
      • The time of the QSO in UTC.
    • Code:
      <BAND>
    • Code:
      <MODE>
       or

      Code:
      <SUBMODE>
      • POTA stores a single mode field. If both Mode and Submode are provided, submode supersedes mode
Also set up your own POTA account so your QSOs with the club event are credited to your account.
Hope that helps

First GBARC POTA activation will be on Thursday, July 24th at Kinghurst CA between 5 and 8pm. I will be there 5pm and set up the club station for SSB and CW. Hopefully we will get at least 10 QSOs to count for POTA credit. The bands that will most likely be active, will be 40,30,20 and 17 meters. 30m band is CW and Digital only.
Please bring bug repellent! Small table and chair for your station to operate from. There are no picnic tables there.
Everyone is welcome to come out and operate.
Lets put GBARC on POTA Activity Spots page.

I've used the HamRS before. It's ideal for this kind of stuff but I am not good phone typing so I use a laptop.  Someday I will upgrade to that fancy Icom 705.

With that paper solution you just need to worry abt Time & Call, rest doesn't change a lot can be filled out later.

This week is my turn to be the net control station for the GBARC net, so I won't be able to join you tonight.  Good luck to everyone and have fun!

First activation of Kinghurst CA-6367 was a success. Even with poor band conditions due to CME launched by our sun we still got on the POTA board with 13 QSOs.
Tom VA3TS with his portable setup using Icom IC-705 running abt 10 watts into tripod mounted vertical antenna and I setup the club Icom IC-7300 running abt 80 watts into old faithful T2FD antenna with on end attached to a nearby tree at abt 30 ft.
Bobby VE3PAV joined us around 7:00 pm.
I think this was a good practice for future activations.
