Yes I've heard CFOS on its 3rd harmonic, but weakly.  If you tune the 2nd harmonic, 1120 kHz, it is clear as a bell (at least from downtown where I heard it).  I thought it was another station until I realized what it was.  I thought there were rules about that :-)

We did some fox hunts a few years ago.  Tom VA3TS built a 2m fox.  The most effective technique seemed to be to use a handheld and use your body as an attenuator to find the null.  I tried my Arrow 2m-70cm satellite ant & could hear the fox on 70cm but the ant is large & unwieldy with too much gain when close-in.  Interest petered out but maybe it could be rekindled.
