Power cable sizes

Post by VE3OSA » Sun Oct 08, 2017 9:36 pm

Hey all
I am wondering about power cable gauges. I was looking at power pole connectors. The ones rated 30 amps are for 16-12 awg. I thought 30 amp wire gauge was 10 awg. Is it ok to use 14 awg (middle)?
What size do you use for power cables?

Here is a chart that shows voltage drop vs conductor size and length for 12V.
You can use smaller than #10 for 30A but the voltage drop increases. The drop will result in heat and eventually failure.
So if you used 10' of 14 ga for 30A, you wold see a 10% voltage drop.

Thanks Rob, I'll stick to the 45 amp powerpoles.
